Consumer was born from a sum of stars aligned in the same direction. One of them was Rafael Calderón Mugica, whom I met at the UCR and with whom I became a friend and brother in life. When I returned from Mexico and started my business adventure in Costa Rica, it was Rafael who trusted Consumer and decided to give us first some minor brands, and then the Cofal line. In the case of Cofal Fuerte, we took it out of the stadium with a campaign that was innovative at the time, and that abandoned the reasons to impact and captivate with emotions.

Rafael Calderón Mugica was Consumer’s first client, and therefore, TRIBU’s first client. Thanks to Rafa, we took off. Our agency was recognized by the National Media Chamber of that time on January 30, 1989.
With Rafael I forged a close friendship at the University of Costa Rica, especially in that year when I ran for the presidency of FEUCR, the Federation of Students of the University of Costa Rica, for the party we formed: Acción Universitaria. That year we were destroyed by René Castro and the liberationist party in the U, but we were satisfied that for the first time in several years the communists lost. Rafael was the head of the campaign and the one who made all that gigantic effort possible, demonstrating since then his great faculties. I then left the political activities, when I joined the National Youth Movement, where I was president for a year. Then followed the publicity, and to this day.
By the way, once again, Rafa, thank you for your courage, that in those times yours was a meditated act of faith. Cheers!
