With a record 25,660 entries from more than 80 countries participating this year, next Sunday sees another week take off at the Palais des Festivals at La Croissette in Cannes. While almost 5,000 films are participating for Film, “only” 786 will compete for the Lion in Promo and a little more than 320 for the Titanium Lion. Of the conventional media, Radio has the lowest level with more than 1,200 entries.
This is the world’s showcase for advertising creativity, a showcase where only the best and most talented creatives, producers and designers win. It is also an arena of politics, lobbying and high tension pressures, which as in every ocean, we see the surface without noticing all the currents in the depths. Here there is also shoaling, massive presence of tuna and dorados, as well as dolphins, sharks, whales, seals and penguins. The wildlife in Cannes is spectacularly varied and the experience one that provides, uncovers and ignites.
In one week Cannes begins. For the 72 Tribe members will be Paula Guevara, Carlos Jimenez and myself. So we carry a lot of eyes, a lot of lung, a lot of emotion and a great responsibility: to return and move everything.
