I am excited to share this news with you: ASCAP is, as of Wednesday, the representative of the CANNES INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL in Costa Rica.
In the Board of Directors we reviewed this possibility a few weeks ago, we gave it course, we pushed the chips and we got the Chairman of CANNES LIONS, Terry Savage, agreed with us the representation in the country, in an unprecedented alliance in our advertising community.
This confirms our commitment to organize the YOUNG CREATIVES COMPETITION in the country next year, as well as a series of fascinating exhibitions of the best in the advertising world in cinemas, universities and business forums. With the connection to Cannes, we will be fighting for the country’s first spot on the 2008 jury, as well as for resources to incentivize the creative in our market.
At the end of October we will be in London for the annual meeting of Cannes representatives from around the world, and in June of next year, we hope to have the largest delegation yet at the Festival itself. As a note, last year Puerto Rico sent 11 delegates, while the Dominican Republic had 14, and from our country there were only three of us.
What is certain and what adds up is important, with CANNES as an ally and with our reiterated commitment in ASCAP to detonate the most solid and aggressive creative process in our history, we can only anticipate positive and winning advances. We dream big, but we can do small.
One step at a time. As a long-distance runner, I understand the pains of the journey, the injuries, the fatigue, the effect of wear and tear, the shortcomings and limited resources. It all often adds up to a can’t or too difficult, or even along the lines of miracles or impossibilities. However, it is a matter of persevering and not accepting limitations as handicaps, but as springs for the creative, the innovative, the ingenious and surprising.
CANNES is a little closer than before. We are going in the right direction, because the more creative we are, the better we will build brands that are powerfully connected to people, and that means sustainable business for our customers. It’s round and it all adds up to a win-win for you and me, the win-win it has to be.
