Here is the message from President Arias, whom I respect and admire. I have already decided: I am going to vote Yes. Insanity would be to expect different results, doing the same thing.
The FTA is imperfect, but it is better than what we have. The FTA is a risk, but the risk of not taking the risk would be greater. NAFTA is openness that I prefer to isolation. NAFTA is a step forward that I prefer to not taking a step. NAFTA is necessary prosperity that is better than stagnation that we do not occupy. NAFTA means opportunities, and if it is not approved, it would mean eliminating them.
Let’s vote Yes next Sunday. Let us choose to support the administration of Oscar Arias and his government, putting aside value judgments and suspicions. We have a President who deserves our trust and our commitment of support, regardless of the negative feelings generated by his chronic and severe egomania as well as his scarce emotional intelligence. That is why I do not admire him and respect him less, because that is how I take him and that is how I decide to support him.
Indeed, Oscar Arias does not inspire a single dream with his speech, tone and manner, but nevertheless, I have decided to place my trust in him to rationally grant him an intellectual and knowledgeable leadership that deserves my humble support. In turn, Alberto Trejos and Anabel Gonzalez are a legitimate guarantee to this process, for their capacity and dedication, for their particular commitment and selflessness, for their love of the opportunity to make a difference and leave a deep mark of their contribution to our country. In turn, Marco Vinicio Ruiz in his management inspires me security and Alfredo Volio ratifies it.
For me, the FTA is a resounding YES and for this reason, I trust that Costa Ricans know how to recognize it, despite the lousy advertising campaign before and after the ridiculous parody of the hearts, despite the memorandum of Casas and Sanchez, despite the unauthorized use of images such as Franklin Chang and other public figures.
The advertising imperfection and the clumsiness in the communication campaign, has caused that many Costa Ricans have seen their attention diverted from the essence that is being discussed. For this reason, the effort is not small, but we must ignore the publicity of the Yes, take its content and the information it provides, to focus on the decision of progress, openness and progress that the FTA brings. This is what is important.
Let’s get informed, let’s document ourselves, let’s do everything necessary to give reason and content to our vote in just one week. Let’s think with our hearts, and surely you will conclude as I did: we must vote yes. Among other things, because of the wisdom implicit in these words: There is no worse decision than the one you don’t make.
Since in a blog anything goes and nothing is for conventionalisms, I repeat what I wrote before: NAFTA is imperfect, but it is better than what we have. NAFTA is a risk, but the risk of not taking the risk would be greater. NAFTA is openness that I prefer to isolation. NAFTA is a step forward that I prefer to not taking a step. NAFTA is necessary prosperity that is better than stagnation that we do not occupy. NAFTA means opportunities, and if it is not approved, it would mean eliminating them.
My vote will be a resolute Yes. With an accent. In one week I invite you to vote Yes. With an accent on the i.
Yes.
