Today all records will be broken, as Nike will have organized the race with the most participants in history by creating the Human Race.
Here’s how it works. In 25 cities around the world thousands of runners will participate in the races organized in them, ideally dressed in a red T-shirt and with your iPod Nano connected to your Nike+ to record your times. However, in these major cities around the world, to participate in them is not necessary.
However, and here comes the interesting part, for those of us who do not live or will run in these cities, we can still participate if we have the equipment and have previously registered on the Nike website. This is why in Costa Rica there will be a few of us with the desire to participate in the most crowded race in the history of mankind. I am impressed, by the way, that Nike representatives in Costa Rica have done absolutely nothing about it, and have missed this opportunity to promote their brand, support Livestrong and run. Wrong!
As an idea there is not much to say. It’s gigantic, it’s immersive, exciting, engaging and more than powerful, and it’s global. In Mexico, for example, it was presented like this:
So if you register on Nike’s website, 10K Human Race, and after running with the Nano and the Nike+, you upload your race information to the website and you will be registered with your times. Then you can compare your performance in the 10K with people from Singapore, New York or Buenos Aires, and you will have been part of the biggest race in history.
For some, silly perhaps, for others, an amazing idea from a brand that has a lot to inspire.
