Have you heard that expression that says: “como quitarle un confite a un niño”? Or the one that adds a bit of humor and says: “Como arrearle a un borracho jumo! Seriously, there are topics that no matter how complex or difficult they may seem, end up being “like a walk in the park”.
Of course, I don’t know shortcuts, and if we have learned anything it is to run one, two or as many extra miles as it takes. That’s why it’s best if you’re a certified long-distance runner, because you’ve proven that you understand everything it takes to reach a goal.
Now, let’s be clear. In this country it is enough that one stands out for others to want to put him down. In fact, and in my case, some people love to throw the ego and narcissism at me, because it is a generally effective way to saw the floor to the Ticos. As we were born and raised in our egalitarian idiosyncrasy, we have in our DNA that code that stagnates: all egalitarian. What losers! In our national culture, all the paticos have to be ugly, and if one throws the colored feather, at least, uncomfortable. However, to those who are more, it provokes jealousy and envy.
Therefore, dear patico, dear patica, if you want colored feathers, if you want to excel and shine, if in your heart is the idea of being outstanding and exciting, you have to be prepared for everything that implies standing out in Costa Rica. Don’t let them get you down!
For those who like to saw you with labels, value judgments and bile-filled criticisms, overcoming them is like a walk in the park. Mind you, getting where you want to be takes time, courage, sacrifice, talent, technology and tolerance. It is in a word: resilience. Daylight is everywhere. Take the power of focus with your magnifying glass and you will light the fire of your dreams.
I invite you not to be daunted by your innate desire to emerge, to succeed to the point of celebration and applause. (Where did this “quiet is nicer” stupidity come from?). Let the bullets of envy bounce off your rubber chest, to pay attention and listen to those around you with love and generosity. I just warn you clearly that you will have to be prepared to pay the price of differentiating yourself. I recommend you to do it with content and with deeds and not just with hollow words. No bombshells! (There are already many of them 🙂
Life is a slow burner, and this is why I believe it’s all in good time. The world is waiting for you and needs you with all your enormous potential. Your beloved people want you extraordinary, they want you extraordinary, so don’t let society normalize you, standardize you and box you into the average, leave that to others! If in your heart you have the desire to emerge, prepare yourself and do it, with the final recommendation that you will achieve even more if you are a great team player. After independence, interdependence follows – it’s sensational!
