A couple of days ago I discovered Klout, thanks to the reference made by Rogelio Umaña, Interactive Creative Director at Tribu DDB, known worldwide as @gorileo. No more and no less than a digital influence meter, that’s Klout.
The variables it crosses have been named as participation, sharing, creating, spreading, consistency, focus, among others. It serves the purpose of locating us in the network, both individually and in relation to others.
Are you an observer? Or are you a specialist? Are you an opinion leader? Klout gives you its measure and it looks to me like an interesting exercise as well as a surprising algorithm, I suppose, of some complexity. It is interesting to see the comparisons and, very importantly, the trends. Rather than data we should look at trends.
For example, Andy Stanley, head of North Point, is a Thought Leader with 67 points in slight decline. Lady Gaga is a Celebrity with a stable 92. Gorileo is a Pundit and has a score of 68 as well as an upward trend. @maviru, Marco Vinicio Ruíz and Minister of Costa Rica in China is a Though Leader with a stable 65 points. Our Minister of Education, Leonardo Garnier has a solid 60 as Broadcaster.
In my case, today he reports me with a score of 57, and the trend is downward. Could it be that there is a lack of heat on my blog or more tweets? (I don’t think so!). Klout insists on rating me as a Specialist, because I also think it can be fooled a bit. 😉 In one way or another, for those of us who like the idea of sharing, particularly on the web, Klout is an interesting resource.
In the midst of the thousand and one wonders on the web, and the garbage too, Klout was a revelation to me. Check it out.
