I am a traveler. Not a tourist. That’s something else. I have been traveling for many years when at 14 or 15 I must have flown for the first time. I will never forget that first occasion when everything started to become small as I was able to get up in that first plane impossible to repeat.
Also unforgettable will be the trip when at 19 I took a Ticabús in Soledad de San José. I went with my friend Fernando Morúa and my salveque throughout the central and western United States, but not before crossing Central America and Mexico on the bus. It was the first big trip, I had a daily budget of $11 and we did it for months.
Being a traveler is a good idea. After all, life itself is our main journey. Just a couple of days ago I took a trip to my past, guided by a specialist, I traveled as an adult to the house where I grew up as a child and there I was with me of 8 years. It was an unusual encounter, magical and full of love. It was also a trip so warm and happy, so different and surprising that I will surely repeat it. I will continue to visit that child in those trips where only imagination can reach.
Today I am in Madrid waiting for my flight to London, for the annual meeting of Cannes representatives. I left Costa Rica a day late, as bad weather sent the Iberia Airbus to sleep in Panama. Then the bad weather at the destination got me stuck in this airport that is made for a good time. 0 is 3. To travel today you have to be patient, be docile with the airlines and never lose your style. For this reason, traveling in pages or with the clouds is easier, although I prefer to take my own pictures.
I like to travel and I do it with books or movies, by plane or on foot. I travel by bicycle, when I run or when I swim. The world rotates every 24 hours on its axis at about 1,600 km/h, and every 365 days it completes a trip around the sun, at a speed of about 108,000 km/h. We live in a big capsule that spins and moves, making us all travelers.
That’s right, you are a traveler. And so are you. You are a traveler. We are travelers. Or hadn’t you noticed? On top of all that we fly even on the ground: We are just passing through! Life is a journey.
So let’s talk: How is your trip going? How much have you known? How much have you known yourself? How many travel plans do you have? How much do you want to do it? Is it a longing or an obsession? Are you going to do it or are you just going to keep dreaming about it? Because if you have already done it, it’s time to share it. We are not what we have, but what we share.
Today on the web we can get anywhere in a matter of a few clicks, and that journey is just as valid as the offline one. I like all trips, and in this one to London I will have a lot to share. Cannes Lions 2012 is coming and I’m sure I’ll be able to share some scoop with you.
In the meantime, I’ll leave you with Matt. I love his videos and his catchy little dance step. Have you tried it? I have and it’s great. I think dancing and I parted ways years ago. I probably don’t have anything else to do about it. I’ll leave you with Matt, I’m sure you’ve already seen him, and I bet you’re going to see him again.
Have a good trip!
