Tribu DDB‘s Chief Creative Officer, Javier Mora, has been confirmed as a jury member at the next Cannes Lions.
He is the first Central American to be appointed, after Costa Rica received a special place for 2012. His selection was made directly by the organizers from a shortlist sent by the Community Board of Directors, the festival’s representative in the country.
La Nación has already published it today, so we can also anticipate that soon the specialized media will release this important news. Now, in case you are not very connected to this topic, it is worth saying that this is an enormous responsibility for Javier, as well as an immense opportunity.
A jury at Cannes is chosen when their country qualifies by a combination of number of delegates attending, number of awards won in the year and entries achieved. In this equation, a country like ours has no chance of getting a slot. However, last year Cannes made an exception and declared it a trial run for 2012.
The organizers assigned two openings for emerging countries, and among them selected Costa Rica. There are several requirements to qualify as a jury member, although the main requirement is that they must be Lions winners. Then they ask for a shortlist, and from among the candidates they choose by a criterion of balance between networks and communication groups.
The confirmation that was received on February 3 reads as follows:
- CANNES LIONS 2012 JURY
- The following judge will represent Costa Rica for Cannes Lions 2012:
- Press: Javier Mora, Tribu DDB
- If your first or third choice was not selected in any particular category, this is purely because of agency or network conflicts.
When the news was made official last year, I wrote a note that you will find in Tendremos Jurado Tico en Cannes. Today we find it an unexpected turn of events that the chosen one was Javier, from whom we can only expect the best representation, as he will arrive in the south of France with all the credentials, the spirit and the experience to do so.
Javier is a multi-award winning creative. He has achieved in his career many statuettes of all nationalities and colors, first as a creative, then in the duo he did with Pablo Cháves for many years and now as the general creative director of Tribu DDB Central America. His leadership, charisma and sensitivity have made him a great team player as well as a great creative inspirer.
With the humility that only the great ones have, Javier is preparing intensely for the responsibility he will have next June. For this reason, we were not surprised to see the photo circulating today with David Droga, the creative who has won the most Lions in history, during his visit to Costa Rica for the IDF.
Very soon his Facebook and photos will be adding many more images, both to share and to remember. His transit through Cannes will have a before and after this experience that until recently seemed impossible.
Costa Rica will have a jury in Cannes and today we already know who has been chosen by the organizers of the great creative festival of the world. Everything adds up and everything adds, in a country that has decided to be creative and a winner.
Congratulations Javier!
