If one day I were allowed to take on a Ministry, I would certainly choose Education. In no other dimension is it possible to make a greater impact and achieve greater reach than in education. This is why I stayed to hear about the future of learning in the digital age, by S. Craig Watkins.
This is why the great challenge lies in redesigning education for the times. If marketing departments are generally lagging behind the times today, let alone classrooms. Needless to say, the last people responsible in companies are the presidents and CEOs, who don’t invest in SXSW, Cannes and all the opportunities that exist to keep up with the times. We have not even made enough adjustments to be only about 5 years behind, considering that 1 year behind today means at least 5 of the years before.
Classrooms with desks and a blackboard on the wall is an age-old model that has lost all validity. Watkins proposes learning centered on the student, hands on knowledge and based on searches, exploration, real connection and both outside and inside the walls.
We all know this, we all agree, but we are doing little to update education. The bulks can no longer be loaded with paper books and notebooks, but with tablets and mobiles loaded with resources, knowledge and inspiration.
Here a little more by Watkins.
