A few months ago I decided to accept the invitation to be part of the process of consultation, innovation and imagination ignited by the country project proposed by José María Figueres.
It was on February 21, 2012 when I met again with the former president, in an evening of conversation with entrepreneurs of the country. It happened in Tribu and it was an occasion to reconnect through dreams and ideas. In an entry I posted the next day on this blog, I added this closing paragraph:
In a vehement and incisive way, forceful and full of energy, Figueres proposed us to unite for the creation of a country project. Just as a company works by objectives, he proposed that Costa Rica do the same with the initial agreement on the main drivers for national development. The country project in pursuit of a national understanding, therefore, has been proposed by a recognized leader willing to detonate it. On a historic and far-reaching night, Figueres demonstrated exceptional conditions.
Since then I have been hooked on the idea of rethinking Costa Rica, of redesigning, reimagining and renewing visions for the benefit of all the people who live in this wonderful country. After all, the world has been transformed by those madmen who believed it was possible to change it. If anyone doubts it or judges it far-fetched, who could question this message?
In preparing for the process that we will officially begin this Monday, July 23, we have enjoyed all the enormous satisfaction generated by a visionary, open and participatory initiative, neither partisan nor electoral, although multi-sectoral and highly committed. Along the way I have met extraordinary people and in the process, I believe it is possible to define a great direction for the country.
Somewhere on the site to be posted on the web, the following response will appear. The question that originated it was simple: Why are you in this?
If there is one thing I am convinced of, it is the power of a shared vision – if a person dreams of achieving the finish line in a marathon, it will take passion and effort with a well-executed plan for success. In short, so it is with any company and with a country as well.
For this reason, I believe that Costa Rica needs to dream big again. Without further delay, today’s Costa Ricans are obliged to ignite a broad and effective, as well as innovative and creative, citizens’ movement to propose a new and exciting direction for the country, as well as possible ways to make it happen.
I have joined Via Costarricense because I believe it can be done.
And we are going to try, together with you.
