The message in the colored spheres. In the registration of his candidacy for the National Liberation Party, Johnny Araya discreetly presented a message of inclusion, openness and renewal through a multicolored sphere, as a symbol of his determination to make a difference with a proposal of legitimate convergence.
With a profound influence in the work of our common and dear friend, the sculptor Jorge Jiménez Deredia, the giant stone spheres have taken on an increasingly relevant meaning in the understanding of our national identity. Instead of hierarchical and vertical pyramids, the first Costa Ricans gave us an integral message that exalts freedom, justice and peace. The mysterious spheres lead us to a holistic vision of our existence in equity and harmony, so we take them as our roots and our starting point.
With his work, Jiménez Deredia inspires us in the deep history of our millenary culture, explains the origin of our pacifist and egalitarian essence, as well as motivates us with his exemplary life of work, commitment and vision, as has been the life of Johnny Araya as well. Deredia and Araya have proven that dreaming big is proper of those who intend to do big, and for this reason, we assumed the sphere to add relevant content in the identity of the campaign that today leads the Mayor of San José, on his way to the Presidency of Costa Rica.
Thus, in our quest to add meaning, we took the symbol on the sphere and translated it to the green color of the National Liberation Party. As the point and followed, within the framework of recent history and the movement initiated by José Figueres Ferrer, green symbolizes the strength of conviction and social commitment. Likewise, as shown by the intense tropical nature in which we live, biodiversity is our greatest wealth, and therefore, it would have been incomplete without a space for all other political colors in our society. For this reason, we integrated more dots that represent openness and a sense of unity. The colored dots highlight every sector of our society, every Costa Rican woman and man.
In the conventional culture of our countries, the opposition presumes that its role is obstruction. In traditional politics the tendency is marked by a harmful constant polarization, typical of the understanding of life as a zero-sum game, where to win one has to lose another. On the contrary, with the identity charged with colorful spheres, we propose to celebrate the differences and their richness, as well as to find the possibilities offered by an integrating vision in society. For this understanding of the reality that we must influence, Johnny Araya Monge is the meeting point in the direction of a better future than we have been able to build so far. That future becomes the focal point of all our efforts, because the direction determines the destiny.
Thus was born the“Sphere of Inclusion and Equity” that we proposed in Tribu DDB for our friends and comrades in struggle, today led by Johnny Araya, with whom I have been friends for 25 years, defined by an enormous and sincere personal appreciation. Surely, by the interpretation we have achieved of the message of the next President of Costa Rica, as all the polls say, the sphere was natural and unanimous approval, as it represents this young, fresh and happy way of seeing politics.
In an affectionate message, Walter Coto wrote about it: “It was refreshing the concept of the sphere, inclusive, compact, integral, philosophical, and holistic that sustains the proposal. How beautiful that there is innovation! When there is innovation there is amazement, and amazement is the most useful thing in those impressions that may seem useless“. It is with joy and desire to make contributions that influence and bring about change that we have begun our participation in this unprecedented process of transformation.
I would like to thank Joaquín Brenes, Art Director at Tribu DDB, for having faithfully interpreted the proposed idea, which in my case required his talent for its realization. And to you, Johnny, thank you very much! It is clear that you have decided to do things in a different way.
