When I was offered the cover of the first issue of Ego, several years ago, I had no hesitation in refusing the kind offer. The name of the magazine and my unfamiliarity with its new format led me to pass up the opportunity.
With the passing of the years and the different editions, the publication achieved the success that Oscar Álfaro, owner and editor of Casa Galería, Ego and other publications, was looking for from the beginning. For this reason, when he visited me last year and invited me again, not without a good dose of trepidation, I accepted his kind invitation.
As we discussed possible approaches, I told Oscar of my interest in being able to tell a little about the tribes in which I live, as well as the opportunity that a cover with hundreds of people in them would be. After all, we are the sum of all our experiences, and thus, of all the people we live with, from your family, the essential tribe, to the last person you interact with.
With photography by Kurt Aumair of Ego, the cover was put together by Kenneth Prieto, who visibly worked hard to compose an image that included many of the tribes in my life. With the support of Diana Lopez, the task was greatly facilitated and still took several days, until the publication itself. The interview was conducted by Inti Picado, with whom I had a very pleasant conversation, and who knew how to interpret me even better than I could express myself.
The experience turned out to be much less painful than expected and the truth is that nothing happens. People who like you praise the publication, and those who criticize it, generally do not tell you. So the personal balance is positive and the experience is much less traumatic than expected, you tell your story and finally you share it. It’s all good.
Here it is, if you want to check it out. I hope you can read its contents, as it turned out to be a good opportunity to celebrate many of the tribes I inhabit.
So Oscar, thank you very much for the invitation. I enjoyed it and I hope you enjoyed it too. Likewise, thanks to all the people who joined me on the cover, because by joining us in this image we achieved a result that was at least interesting, and in my opinion, sensational. Thank you!
And to you, dear reader of “A Fuego Lento”, here it is as part of my blog, or in other words, of this blog that sometimes adds up and sometimes not. Normal.
