I am not a theologian nor do I presume sufficient biblical knowledge to explain anything. However, in the Bible we find truth after truth, age-old wisdom and teachings that can make all the difference in our lives. In fact, as the compendium of ancient books that it is, I understand and believe that it was written by chosen people inspired by God. I also think it is a document without error and that it tells the truth.
In fact, in John 8:32 we find a phrase spoken by Jesus that is of the most profound scope: “The truth shall set you free”. Jonah! Like that or more forceful? In just 24 characters, more than two thousand years before the invention of Twitter, humanity received the most powerful message imaginable and at the same time, possibly the most regularly ignored.
Because of this, it should come as no surprise that most of us assume ourselves to be at liberty. After all, most of us live in free and sovereign democracies, enjoy the most essential human rights and live in the midst of countless opportunities, such as choosing our rulers, the studies we wish to pursue, the activity we engage in or the faith we profess.
So, why so many people are co-dependent, alcoholics or addicts (just to mention three common circumstances)? Simply put, so manyworking people, so many obese people, so many isolated people, so many people broken and breaking down! In fact, I have come to believe that there are only two types of people: those who are fucked up and those who are trying to recover. The former are deprived of their freedom without even being aware of their imprisonment. Meanwhile, the latter manage to discover, for the most part, that their lives improve through a close relationship with God.
“The truth shall set you free” generated almost 3 million Google hits for me, and for this reason, I will not attempt to write more of what has been contributed. However, if you want to live in true freedom and peace, I invite you to explore the Truth. Now, if you were to ask me what is that Truth that I write with a capital V, I would dare to tell you that it is the one you will find in the Bible and specifically in the New Testament.
Mind you, I need translators.
