Every year in the third week of June, the world of creativity meets on the French Riviera, specifically at the Palais des Festivals located on the Croisette in Cannes, between the beach, the marina and countless hotels and restaurants.
“I come to Cannes to witness ideas that can change the world,” said Rei Inamoto of Akqa New York, while Jonathan Mildenhall of AirBnb added that “Every year I leave as a bigger person in terms of the understanding I take away from creativity.”
This year more than 12,000 people from 94 countries attended, with more Costa Ricans adding to their personal experience of the world’s largest creative festival. Of the delegates who attended, 1,272 represented advertising clients with more than 37,000 pieces participating in 18 categories. More than 400 young lions competed in the different categories.
In the following recently released short film you will find a very good summary that, as well done as it is, I must admit that it is never enough. You have to go.
The next festival is less than 10 months away, with dates set for JUNE 21 to 27, 2015. The planning of our participation is already on, from the Young Lions to the most junior creative, with the local or international brand, from the big agencies to the smallest, whether they have won a Lion or not, because Costa Rica is called to continue winning.
In 2014 Ogilvy CR won a bronze Lion and 1 short-list or finalist for its work for Claro. Leo Burnett CR also won a bronze Lion and 3 short-lists for its Incomplete Bios case for the Paniamor Foundation. JWT CR won 1 finalist for Central Veterinaria, while Tribu DDB won 2 short-lists for Universal. With more than a dozen Lions already in the country, next year promises to be a great one.
In Costa Rica, the Community of Marketing Communication Companies is the official representative of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
It is worth mentioning with admiration that Guatemala is the Central American nation with the most participation in Cannes as well as the most awards. Ogilvy Guatemala stands out in particular, with more than 10 gold, silver and bronze Lions in its showcase. Its creative director Ramiro Eduardo appears in the short film above at minute 3:26 as well as at 3:56.
If you are planning to go for the first time or return, it is time to plan all the necessary resources in your calendar. It’s like running a marathon: if you fail to prepare, you must prepare to fail.
