What are we creatives for? What are we communicators for? What are we advertisers for? And in any case, what is the purpose of our existence, whatever we are, or, to put it another way, what do you have in your hands (I doubt very much that it’s just so that our clients sell more or we win a prize from time to time…)?
Rick Warren is the pastor author of the best seller “A Purpose Driven Life”, and in the video I include from TED he talks for 20 minutes that have substance and essence in each one of them. Don’t miss it, because it’s not about you, it’s not about me, it’s about having faith in a Higher Being, and affirming that we don’t have so much faith as to be atheists.
What you believe determines our behavior, and our behavior defines our lives. Your beliefs make a difference, and because of this, it is important to define precisely what we believe in. As Warren puts it, spiritual emptiness is a universal disease, and many who have plenty of it fail to resolve it, for it is not about what you have, but about what you believe in.
He claims that billions of people exist, though not all of them live. And in this circumstance, it makes sense to agree that these are not matters of religion but of living beings, that like you and me, we may be children of accidental parents, but none of us is an accidental child, for although our parents may not have planned us, God did plan each one of us, in infinite love and full devotion, just as he did in his time with his son Jesus.
Whether you are an entrepreneur, student, executive or creative, whatever you are today, I believe that we are not in the world to just exist and then die. We have a mission and a purpose, which surely has more to do with serving than being served, more to do with giving than receiving, more to do with believing than having.
