I lived ten years of my life as a publicist at McCann-Erickson, one of which was in San Pedro Sula and almost five in Mexico City. Then I returned to Costa Rica and founded Consumer, the name Tribu had for its first fifteen years.

The years fly by and the experiences add up. Time goes by and between one memory and another, revelations like the photograph I am publishing today occur. In an image suddenly appear faces of dear people, whom you have not seen for decades, and that in an instant remind you of dear friendships. They are usually in the midst of some you would have preferred not to have met. Right?

Today José Murillo sent me the file and when I open it I find Irene Medina, Víctor Cuchí and Flora Joseph. There is Lucy, my secretary for four years, Marcelo Salup, Helena Dumani, Nina Arriola (Q.D.D.G.) and Karen Lee. The faces all add up, and among them are Andres, Patricia, Kim Varma, Elena and her husband. Next to the elegant gray-haired man in a light blue shirt, Carlos Herranz, who presided over the company, I am there, about 29 years old, with the mustache that accompanied me for years. It was a sensational agency of unforgettable times in which they taught me this fabulous profession that has given me so much for more than 33 years.

The image is missing many people from my time at McCann. From my first “guardian angels” like Elena Scanlon and Laura Greenawalt, to my life friends Luis Miguel Messianu (Alma DDB) and Carlos Vaca (BBDO). Not to mention the brothers I won in Dolores Ávalos, Carlos González (QDDG) and Nieves García. The list of wonderful people in that McCann of more than 300 people would be endless, but the memories are fresh. Especially when they are triggered by an image as rich as this photograph.

At McCann I became a publicist. It was an incredible school, in years when I wouldn’t have worked at any other. Because of this, the only other step I would have considered was my own. So it was time for my own adventure, seasoned by the independence and total autonomy, the challenge and struggle that comes with getting started. While other agencies used Worldwide, of course, I used Sabana Sur, and with great honor.

Then we had a fleeting relationship with Bozell, a little more than ten years with the fabulous Saatchi Saatchi of Kevin Roberts and Bob Isherwood, to celebrate two years as partners of DDB, led in the Spanish-speaking world by Juan Carlos Ortiz. We were Consumer first and Tribu since November 3, 2003.

Time goes by and everything changes. However, a photograph like this one, just as you also have many, in an instant connects you with something that not even God changes, and that is the past. That’s why it’s a good idea to do well every day, because later you want memories as happy, as inspiring and as wonderful as the ones I have awakened by seeing so many dear people in a photograph.
